Video Plan
My plan for a video is intended to link to the story in my physical magazine called an Experts View on the Tech Shortage this video would consist of an interview of a person who has some knowledge of the tech shortage in somewhat official clothing e.g., a suit, this interview would be segmented into 4 main sections and would have visual overlays of tech and relevant graphs. Their is more chance to keep the audience engaged with this content with higher levels of integrated content due to the youths shorter attention span. I intend the video to be around 2-2.5 mins long.
Section One of the video is intended as an introductive segment to the Silicon shortage and Tech industry.
Section Two will focus on the impacts of the shortage and the main issues behind this including the mention of the computer and car industry.
Section Three will focus on the causes of this shortage and the other possible issues such as higher demands.
Section Four will focus on the possible actions and mitigation methods to fix the shortage.
Section 1-
The Global Silicon Shortage is a preeminent issue in High Income Countries and Newley Emerging Economies as most modern products require silicon, this has caused the demand to outstrip the available supply causing weaker dependent production such as PC components and some car manufacturers have suffered.
Section 2-
The issues in supply have thrown the industries to compete for the limited available supply and have caused the product prices to be driven up due to this. The Car Industry has been effected as modern cars are produced with onboard computers to keep diagnostics and allow for easier use. This is similar to the issues in computer component supply particularly relating to the Entertainment computer industry as GPU and CPU supply has been affected, this has caused the prices to increased factors of up to 100% for these goods from third party sellers, this has also affected the media entertainment industry as most modern movie productions require levels of AI and CGI production that can be limited by the level of technology available to these companies.
Section 3-
The Silicon shortage has a number of causes with the easiest example being the theory that due to the Covid 19 pandemic and lockdowns the production of silicon has been interrupted and as a result the global supply distribution has contributed to the lack of supply. Another factor can be the increase in demand as more due to the lockdowns and in some countries even furlough pay allowing individuals increased levels of disposable income and trapping them in their houses, this caused greater levels of interest in and purchases of High End Computer Components effectively increasing the demand of products that are produced with silicon and by extension increasing the demand for silicon.
Section 4-
Their is different views to solving this shortage as the construction of Silicon production facilities would help to alleviate this and their has already been huge investment in these facilities though they may take a couple of years to come online to full efficiency. Their is also suggestions that the products such as cars be downgraded in the tech available to meet the demand or suggestions that entail the production of lower quality components in mass to reach supply. Their is also the opinion that the issue will resolve itself as demand drops after the lockdowns and furlough as production again reaches peak efficiency.

Brief 3 Age group research
Why dose media product not appeal to younger people?
Older people pictured or laced emphasis on, they represent thing the youth is uninterested in.
Issues that don't concern the, e.g., housing prices, marriage and kids.
Home Making ideas that are not relevant to younger audiences and that they may not be able to afford or want to do.
They have shorter attention spans so things like puzzles interest them less and they feel less of a reward from completion of puzzles.
What appeals to younger audiences?
The possibility to win big prices.
Some cartoons but possibly not if the reader is trying to shrug of immaturity or has a dislike for them.
Cookery as they have less experience than older people and have to cook for themselves most of the time and Clothes as they care about vanity and have lower budgets due to youth.
Digital style media reports as they identify with them and when they look familiar then their is more identification with them as they are recognisable.
Some level of politics, not to in depth as this can get 'boring' but mostly things that will effect them in some way, e.g., minimum wage rises.
Tech news on things like apple and Samsung as for many of the younger generation their is a love for technological advancements.
Lifestyle improvements like jogging and cycling as they strive to be fitter and as a result look for tips in the genre.
Eco-friendly reports and news as this is a larger concern for youth as they will feel the impacts more and live through it.
Discussion on Sexuality and other more modern controversial matters.
Youth Age Groups
16-18, This age group will have just left full time education and will have less disposable income they also will likely work for a lower wage, around half will plan to go to University meaning that they will need to cut corners with costs and other luxuries meaning they are less likely to send on a magazine and as such the target audience of this group is substantially less. around 86.4% of these people are in some form of education.
18-21, This age group will likely be just entering the full time job market and as such they may have slightly more disposable income however they likely are not in a position to spend much as they likely will not have much money for a house and still will be renting or living with their parents if they can. They will likely have more connection to media still and will prefer stories that are relevant to them.
21-25, This age group will have started working in the role they have focused on in education and as a result will have more money and may have been working their for a while, they have more world experience and will in general be more knowledgeable they likely will prefer around 40% of people think they spend too much time outside with this mostly being 34 and under age groups.

Initial Response Post
Brief 3:
For brief 3 my initial ideas for the magazine would be to have a magazine that is focusing on the content of people and vehicles this would include two to 3 pages of detailed stories and personal sourced images that can focus on the creation of connection to a vehicle and how the vehicle doesn't have to be a good or bad one. Their will also be a second edition with a differing focus on how environmentally friendly vehicles don't have to be new and how the owners of these vehicles are justifying their choices as well as personal stories. Names for the magazine could be 'Vehicles, Vanity, Variation' or 'Not Just Metal'.
A image that shows the front of eco magazine (Note that in images i would use the owner would be included)
These magazines will be aimed at men and their will be a deep focus on investigative journalism and focusing on true facts and stories as well as incorporating content pages on with both a image of a picture relevant to the story that can act as a guide and some stories with only the associated numbers that can hint at the story with a reference or hooking story name like 'How she managed to pay less and get more'.
Other Ideas, these would include a magazine that focuses on the natural beauty of differing places and the more out of town countryside life allowing for the use of images that showcase normal people in a beautiful backdrop. This could include stories that aim to market a more active lifestyle. The names of this magazine would be similar to 'Hidden Habitats' or 'Habitats, Health, Happiness', this would fit the theme and possible stories. Their also could be a story on the discovery of hidden nature like voles in a water town or deer in a farmers field.
The magazine will be focused at both men and women and the people that are shown will be doing something in the image posed in that position like paused drinking with a bike on the side of a river or other activities.
Brief 4:
The ideas that I initially have for this is the song Country Roads in a performance focusing on a persons memories of a place. The themes of this would be how they have left their home and how they long to go back by they cannot go home. Initially the lines 'Dark and dusty painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye' could have the background of the person who is having the memories thinking back to a scene of them sheltering with a possible close friend and recounting the memory with a teardrop in their eye. Their also could be a association with the inability to return and the possible loss. The possibility's are quite large however I don't intend to attempt this brief in my coursework.

Media Initial Ideas
AS Media Planning and research – initial ideas for the NEA
Brief 3 Magazine |
Ideas |
You work for
an independent media production company. You have been given the task of
producing one front cover and the contents page(s) of the first two editions
of a new real-life story magazine that is being launched by Bauer and two
pages for the working website for the magazine. Contents pages can be either
single or double page spread. The web pages must promote the new magazine to
its target audience and enable fans to interact with the content. |
Must break
down the age groups further into groups of 16-18, 18-21, 21-25. Genre Gaps:
Video Games, News, Geography issues, Geographical areas, Holiday
destinations, Youth’s sense of identity and mental health. |
Summary of
brief requirements: • Real-life story
magazine covers and contents pages: Two or three pages for each of the first
two editions (based on choice of single- or double-page spread). • Magazine distribution method: Content must
be suitable for retail distribution. • Number of
web pages: One homepage and one linked page. |
No mentions
of inappropriate images or content. The content of pages could be covered
over multiple pages however it is better if it can be all on one page. |
• Cross media
production target audience: A primarily 16–25-year-old mass market audience
that expects to be emotionally engaged |
Interested in
more Celebrity gossip, Music, Modern Media news, Video Games, Sports news,
and casual reading- less likely to be drawn in by Older music reviews and
hard News. This is relevant as it allows the youth to be engaged in the
magazine. |
There must be
a clear sense of branding across the two elements of the cross-media
production. |
Names of the
Media products adhering to the conventions of more modern media less likely
to have older conventions present. This would be like having the stories in
big stand out writing on the front page with ‘clickbait’ like titles and a
loose pallet of colours. |
Ø
Production detail that must be included The
production of the magazine covers and contents pages must include (as a
minimum): • At least four different main images using original photography
across the magazine covers and contents pages. Ø
A different use of mise-en-scène for each
cover. |
As a minimum
each magazine page must not have the same images twice and will have small
amounts of text that is shown for the story’s as well as clearly showing the
images are taken by the designer and showing the genre with links to text/
story that accompanies the image, for example for the Video Games magazine a Story
on RPG games would feture an image of an RPG as well as relevant information. |
• Editing of
magazine covers and contents pages (including photos, text, graphics,
typography and layout). • Written
text including elements such as the masthead, main coverline, selling lines,
headlines, captions, subtitles and copy. • Barcode,
date, edition and price information on each front cover. • A call to
action pointing readers to the online website. |
The text of
the main title/ name of the magazine would be consistent across the magazine
as well as allowing for changes in the size of the title. The stories on the
front page may use some seraph fonts but the predominant fonts should be sans
fonts. This will keep the magazine easy to read as wells as having stand out
titles on the pages. |
•
Representation of at least two different social groups (e.g. as defined by
age, gender, race and ethnicity, sexuality). |
The images
should showcase a multinational and mulit-ethnic display of characters or if
this is not possible a mention in the scripts of the magazine of different
genders, religions, or ethnic groups. However, this can cause some issues if
the diversity dose not fit for example an article on a black celebrity should
not have a person of white ethnicity in the article unless relevant via
connections. ALSO THE ARTICLES THAT FEATURE A ETHNIC MINORITY MUST NOT PRESENT
THEM IN A PURELY NEGATIVE LIGHT, unless it is a challenge to conventions but
then the issue would be void as it presents the positively. For example, for
a Music magazine their should be a coverage of songs that originate from
different cultures or an article that explains the emergence of certain types
of music due to cultures, do not credit cultures for music without evidence
of the credit though. |
The
production of the web pages must include (as a minimum): • Original audio or
audio-visual content appropriate to the online website. • A minimum of two original images (with at
least one different original image on each of the two pages). These images
must be different from those produced for the magazine. |
This could be
an image of a fellow student posing in a particular place such as on a bridge
for a Natural Beauty magazine, these images must be taken properly and seem
to some levels of professionalism. For example, photoshopping a landscape in
is a no go but editing lighting effects to create a different feel for the
image is a good strategy. The images for the webpage must link to the magazines
theme but cannot be direct copies for example for a music magazine there
could be images of the creation of the songs on the website or of the
creation of the magazine to add in a story to the webpage. |
• Appropriate
conventions of website design, including an original title and logo and a
menu bar. • Text introducing the main features of the magazine. • A range of appropriate media language
techniques (typography, images, fonts, backgrounds, logos etc.) as
appropriate to the purpose of the website • Working links from the home page to the
other page. . |
Names for the
magazines and websites like Remix for a rap culture like magazine or The KNOW
for a pop culture magazine. These names need to somehow link to the genre of
content the magazine will show and may include references to their specific
cultures. |
Brief 4:
Music video and online |
|
You work for
an independent media production company. You have been given the task of
producing a three-minute music video for a love song by a fictional
band/artist signed to Universal Music Group, and two pages for the working
website for the band/artist. You may use an existing song for your music
video (this does not need to be copyright free). The music video must feature
a narrative appropriate to a music video (e.g. a performance montage, a
narrative illustrating or commenting on the song, or a mix of performance
montage and other narrative elements). |
Adele –
Lovesong, romanticised, man woman stereotype, maybe homosexual relationship
to emphasis artists attempts to be woke. |
Summary of
brief requirements: • Music video:
One, three-minute music video. •
Distribution channel: Content must be age appropriate for young adults from
the age of 16. • Number of
web pages: One homepage and one linked page. |
Song is 5 min
long. https://www.adele.com/ |
• Cross-media
production target audience: A primarily 16–25 year old mass market audience
that expects to be emotionally engaged. There must be a clear sense of
branding across the two elements of the cross-media production. |
Modern song
from respected artist of that age group, this will be able to entice more
views as they may be the most popular demographic on online media where this
video would be. |
Production
detail that must be included The production of the music video must include
(as a minimum): • Range of camera shots, including shot distances, angles and
movement as appropriate to a music video. • Editing of
footage appropriate to a music video. •
Graphics/titles to include the name of the track and the name of the
band/artist. |
Long shots of
open fields, pathetic fallacy, man woman contrast around love, |
Ø
At least two different uses of mise-en-scène. Ø
• At least two characters representing at
least two different social groups (e.g. as defined by age, gender, race and
ethnicity, sexuality). |
One male, one
female. Female
singing the song in the music video. The images
should showcase a multinational and ethnic display of characters. Or perhaps
from different classes within society. |
The
production of the web pages must include (as a minimum): • Original audio or
audio-visual content which may include material from the music video but must
include at least one element produced specifically for the website. • Appropriate
conventions of website design, including an original title and logo for the
band/artist’s webpage and a menu bar. • Working links from the home page to the
other page. • A range of appropriate media language
techniques (typography, images, fonts, backgrounds, logos etc.) as
appropriate to the purpose of the website. |
Would be
centred around the producer, would consist of her songs and her life
information (bio) |
• A minimum
of two original images (with at least one different original image on each of
the two pages). These images must be different from those produced for the
music video. |
The images
would be shot separately from the music video, in different settings with
different Mise en scene. Would consist
of the artist and the lover within the music video. |
Text
introducing the band/artist. |
Adele – Love
song Would be in
bold font and would be in the foreground of a romantic shot introducing the
two characters to the music video |

Jungle Book Essay 1967 vs modern
The first Jungle book was made in 1967 it was the 19th
Disney movie to be made and sadly it was the last film that Walt Disney himself
oversaw as he unfortunately passed on during its production. It is also the
first Disney animated Film where the opening credits say who voiced each role.
The animation appears a bit outdated, but the age does not detract from the
great story Disney had created, or the voice actors who added life to this
movie.
The film was directed by Wolfgang Reitherman who also
directed other Disney greats such as Peter Pan, The Aristocats and the One
Hundred and One Dalmatians. He began working for Disney in 1933 and is
considered one of Disney's "Nine Old Men". The total budget for the
film was $4,000,000. The film grossed $141,843,612 (USA). The film was shown in
countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, and Sweden. The film was most popular
in the USA where the film was made. The film has a 7.6 IMDb rating. It is also
estimated to be the 29th highest grossing film of all time in the United
States.
Wolfgang Reitherman also allowed the actors to create their
own representations for their characters allowing the characters to feel more
alive and real as well as giving them more personality this was a partial
reason to the success of the original Jungle Book and the generation that watched
it as Children.
The film is only 78 minutes long which may be surprising to
a modern audience as we are now used to films being closer to 2 hours onwards.
This may be partly to production costs and cinema running availability as the
film would have only been shown in the cinemas at first as any people did not
have televisions yet so producing VCRs and DVDs was pointless. The Jungle Book
was released in the United States on VHS in 1991 as part of the Walt Disney
Classics line and in the United Kingdom in 1993. Home video sales outside North
America totalled 14.8 million units by 1994. The film was later released on DVD
and Blu-ray for further audience consumption. It is now a widely accessible
film on platforms such as Netflix and Sky, it is also one of the many available
films that can be accessed by illegal internet streaming. In terms of
marketing, the Jungle Book (1967) did not include much marketing other than
movie posters and cinema signs due to the lack of internet and social media
which we have nowadays. Yet as there was not much competition, especially in
the animation industry, the film was extremely popular as it was for all the
family to watch and Disney was already an extremely popular household name like
it still is today.
Disney’s live action remake of the film in 2016 which had
the goal of making a more modern and updated version of the successful family
favourite which targeted a different audience, the newer film seems to have a
darker theme and as such I believe that it was targeted at the generation who
grew up watching the Animated Jungle book and for the newer young adults and
teenagers. It was directed by Jon Favreau who is known for producing the Iron
Man film series that is popular with this age groups creating further incentive
for young adults and teens to watch the film.
It is hard to judge which film was more successful due to
the difference in media in time, as it was hard to access the original in 1967
but it is much easier to access and market now. Marketing for this film was
much easier as there is now social media sites such as YouTube, Facebook,
twitter etc to promote the film and with help from the internet spreading the
word is much easier in comparison to 1967. The production company held a fan
event where sneak peeks were spread and some of the actors were introduced too,
they also had many teaser trailers and trailers to get fans excited ready for
the release of the film. The Disney parks also got involved in marketing the
film as they had sand models of characters from the film in 'Animal Kingdom'
(one of the Disney Theme Parks). This then got people to share pictures of this
on social media sites which resulted in word-of-mouth marketing.
The newer film also pays homage to the older one. This is
shown with how both films start at with the shot of Mogli holding his forehead
against a wolf this is one of many intertextual links between the two films.
There is also poster for both films that have similar layouts with both
emitting a yellow-gold light form the middle of the image and with the
characters placed on the sides, however there is a clear difference in how the characters
are presented as in the 1967 poster Shere Khan being more friendly and ‘cartoony’
this contrast to the newer poster where he is placed in a more protective ready
to pounce position making him seem more fierce.

Forbrydelsen EP1 Day1 Scene 1 analysis
The show opens with a young woman we later learn is called Nanna running, this is stereotypical of the thriller genre, the clip also shows the victim as a teenage younger girl who is presented as isolated and venerable, their is also a Synthesized Drum beat that is quite quick paced almost matching the victims running tempo. The Scene starts with a low level following shot of her feet as she runs from her pursuer. The location is in a dark forest that creates a typical horror theme with a light being shown behind the girl. The ASL is fast and crosscuts between the victim and the murderer who is presented as an ambiguous figure with more measured menacing movements, we can only identify the murderer as wearing a hooded jacket that is black. The then stumbles through the forest into a waterway that she stumbles to get out of, this creates the feeling of panic, that showcases the diegetic sounds that match her movements creating a more realistic feeling scene. She then reaches a tree leaning on it for support where we get an extreme close up shot of her illuminated by the plane that shows her face as hurt and panicked, the plane shows the more urban outskirts setting and allows for a better transfer to the city and creates a brief moment of relief as she realizes where she is however it also has exposed her to the pursuer, then she begins to move again and is illuminated by the pursuers torch again allowing the reveal of her white under cloth allowing for the victim to seem innocent and young, this dress is visibly ripped showing her danger almost as if her the purity is threatened by the black clothed man, this is furthered by the fact that black can connote bad (Barthes Theory), and the in modern media black usually is associated with the bad guys. The scene ends with the girl begging to turn away from the pursuer. The creators then use a sound bridge to zoom out and show the forest and urban edges of the area to then link to the next scene.
How Forbrydelsen represents Danish culture and Social concerns, How far dose Forbrydelsen adhere to expected conventions:
The showing of Sarah Lund at the start of the next scene wakes up early worried showing the flaws of her personal life this is a convention of the Police Thriller Genre showing it adhering to the genre, the show then presents the importance of family to the Danish, this is shown with the way that Sarah walks in on her clearly teenage sleeping son with the TV left on, adhering to the typical teenage image of more care less as he seems to not have packed much adhering to that convention, Sarah is shown to smile, showing her love, this is continued by the showcasing of her boyfriend as a loving man who offers to put them some coffee on, their is also a remark about Sarah the Dane being exited to become a Swede, to which she responds with never showing the slight cultural rivalry between both nations. The bridge between the next scene however shows Sarah turning up at work where she is pranked by her colleges, this shows the parody of a crime as it is more funny, the blow up doll can foreshadow the themes of the story as possibly sexual. who give her a typical Swedish headpiece which she wears this is a friendly tease at the Swedish culture from the Danes. Their is then a transition that shows the Working man and then Lars is introduced and Sarah shows him around, he is quite Nobel with how he wants to protect the possible prostitute of the scene only to be put down by Sarah almost implying that the possible prostitute isn't worth as much effort to ensure she is fine as well as defying the stereotype that a woman would care more for the proustite than than the man showing the male dominated police forces almost jarring as if she is jarred against it. Theis who seems to be the boss of a moving company, his employee knocks over a glass ornament which he refuses to apologies for, Theis is then shown to negotiate for the employee and then the employee calls the man a Paki and refuses to pay Theis then says he will knock it of the bill and says tells his employee-Van to clean it up, this shows a cultural dislike for the Muslim culture. Theis' wife then calls with panic creating a convention that is false as it is the Dishwasher that has broken. This sequence shows the wife as panicked but also intelligent as she says to Theis to get the Plummer which he refutes and try's to fix it only to break it again, The bigger Theis is set up as a possible murderer as it shows him fooling around with him pushing his wife to the floor and the camera showing an image of Nanna the murder victim at the end this makes the watcher believe that Theis is a possible murderer.
Very good quality, however there is too much information and it almost summarizes the entire scenes, Nevertheless you have written about a lot of conventions. In future try and link it back to some theorists
How dose Forbrydelsen adhere to expected conventions?
Theis and his wife Pernille are shown as equal business partners at first but as the day develops the writers show a more traditional husband wife relationship this is shown in the line that Theis says to Pernille "I'll find her and bring her home" this shows the fact that Theis is more dominant and Pernille is staying at home even though she is willing to go look for Nanna. This is Judith Butler theory that gender should be a fluid variable that can change based on the situation and circumstance. Cultural Social context showing that this is an expected behavior of the family, this shows Lisa as more fluid and becoming a more modern fluid representation. In support of Butlers Theory Nanna was a very typical example of the groups, whereas Lund is shifting between the roles with family and work. This shifting of perceived gender defies the genre conventions as most Crime Dramas have a dominant Male protagonist or presence.
Sarah is shown as emotionless and not hugely empathetic to case or the victims only showing a brief sense of empathy for Theis, this is shown in a series of close-up shots of Sarah walking up to a distressed Theis and confirming his fear with a smaller nod, the camera then focuses on Sarah's emotionless expression then her eyes slowly dilate showing a brief moment of remorse. This opposes the genera as women are expected to be more emotional and worried like how Pernille is shown to need Theis for support in her worry and more emotional when hearing the news as well as the lack of emotion making her seem more invested which is also a convention of the detective caring more about the case and solving it more than helping the family recover. This is useful to the writer as it shows the detective dedication to the case and how they are professional.
Another way that Forbrydelsen adheres to genre conventions
is through the representation of Theis as disliking Oliver Nanna’s ex-boyfriend,
he is described as a Bastard by Theis and he is dismissive of Oliver when he goes
to Oliver’s’ parents house and Oliver insist that Nanna is not there, making Theis
apologies and begin to worry more than in the past. This is adhering to the
conventions of Fathers not liking their daughter’s boyfriend and also saying that adults
can be dismissive of the younger generations even when they are shown to be correct or have no reason to doubt them creating a situation where Theis is worried and also shown to be more worried.

Intertextuality and Stranger Things
The Intertextual scenes used in Stranger Things represents the common stereotypes of 1980s small-town America this is shown with the Spielbergian ideologies. The series of Stranger Things has a large showcase on the weaponised intertextuality in the show.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Stranger things also showcase intertextuality with both having scenes where the communication with the alienated member of the main cast being done with flashing/ blinking lights.

Task 1: Forbrydelsen & Stranger Things
The fandom in Forbrydelsen can be shown with the fandom that surrounds Sarah Lund, this is shown with when the producers released a Jumper that she wore and it quickly became out of stock, the Jumper worn by Sophie Garbol was not particularly fashionable and designed by the producers to show Sarah Lund's confidence in herself. This sticking point caused the jumper to be a prop that the fanbase began to identify with and want to imitate.
The fandom of Stranger Things is similarly large and dedicated this can be shown by the huge amounts of fanart that can be found on google with the simple search of' Stranger Things fanart'.

Marketing of the Jungle Books
Favreau introduced the film in teaser trailers at popular events and released still images from the film to give an insight of the film. In
order to appeal to a variety of audiences through the trailer, they chose to use the example of ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ instead of other popular films like Cinderella from example. This appeals more to male audiences. A
Jon Favreau also deliberately wanted the animals to seem more HD and less animated so it would
seem more suitable for older people.
In 1967 and 2016 Disney released different trailers, with 1967 trailer was animated and was impressive for the generation of tech it was released in however the quality of the trailer from modern day assessment dose not hold up well. The newer jungle book trailer has made the film seem darker and successfully shrugged the image of a child's film away from the production, this has allowed Disney to create a mores suspenseful film than the 1967 one. The 1967 trailer has a more upbeat tone making it appeal more to a younger audience. The 2016 trailer is less appealing to children, but dose appeal to the older audience who watched the original jungle book. Due to this, the story is being portrayed as a more intense and brutal film.
